Frances Berriman- Frontend Developer
I’m Frances and I work on the front-end of GOV.UK, a new site bringing together services and information for citizens that recently went into beta. Previously, I worked as a senior developer at Nature Publishing Group and the BBC and I spent some of my time working with microformats.org.
I’ve always preferred to work with organisations that are trying to provide useful content to the world, in some form or another, rather than the next big advertising or marketing campaign.
Being able to join this team to make *the* Government website, that almost everyone in the country will have contact with and will need information from, was too much of a good opportunity to pass up.
As well as the over all impact of the project, the best aspect of being part of the team here is how we’re encouraged to use only the best tools and techniques for the job – we’re not being weighed down by legacy or out of date policy when it comes to the technologies we’re choosing. Essentially it feels like being part of a small start-up.
